Graduate Program Membership

The FASIS Team and The Graduate School (TGS) have partnered to create a system where graduate programs (currently PhD and MFA programs) can officially track faculty program membership through pages in the Faculty and Staff Information System (FASIS). This allows faculty lists to be exported easily and used for internal purposes by individual programs and TGS. It also enables this data to be pulled into Northwestern Scholars, Northwestern’s searchable database of faculty research interests and research networking tool.

Authorized TGS users and Directors of Graduate Studies (DGS) and their designated proxies may use FASIS to record and edit the faculty members for their respective programs.  Those affiliations are pulled into Northwestern Scholars and appear in individual faculty profiles as well as graduate program faculty listings in Northwestern Scholars, which can be found by searching for the name of the graduate program or browsing for it on the Organizations page.  Please see below for information on how the graduate programs fit into Northwestern Scholars and how directors of graduate programs can update faculty affiliations through FASIS.

Instructions for graduate program directors and their proxies:

Update access & security

If you are a TGS representative or designated proxy from a graduate program and require access to update members of a graduate program, please email with your name, NetID, and the graduate program(s) to which you require access.

Once security access is assigned, you can update graduate program membership by logging into the FASIS Self Service Portal with your NetID and password.
