Using SafeRide

Can anybody use SafeRide?

Use of SafeRide is limited to Northwestern faculty, staff and students, you must have a Wildcard to use SafeRide. Because SafeRide is a safety service rather than a taxi service, we cannot accept ride requests from parties larger than three. Please consider other options such as walking as a group or Northwestern's shuttle service.

What can I expect when I call?

We will answer your call as quickly as we can, but due to call volume, your call may be placed on hold briefly. Please stay on the line and our dispatcher will be with you soon.

If you have a smartphone the dispatcher will explain to you how to get our new TapRide app.

If you do not have a smartphone the dispatcher will ask you for:

  • your net-id
  • location
  • destination
  • number of riders

Make sure you give your net-id and not a friends. The dispatcher will then enter your ride into TapRide manually and you will receive a text message with your ETA.

Please note: call traffic is highest right at the beginning of the shift and between 10pm and midnight.

Can I still get a ride even though I don’t have a smartphone?
