Travelers with pre-existing health conditions are strongly encouraged to discuss strategies for managing their condition abroad with an HTH Global Health specialist in advance of departure. Global Health specialists are available 24/7 at (610) 254-8771. Tell the operator you are calling about planning for future travel (not seeking immediate, emergency medical assistance).
For more information about managing pre-existing health care needs abroad, see http://www.northwestern.edu/studyabroad/resources/online-guide/health-and-safety/health/index.html.

* Reimbursement of airfare and/or accommodation for a family member to travel to the covered person’s place of hospital confinement. This benefit requires an expected hospital stay of seven days or more.
See “enrollment procedures”. Travelers are required to carry a copy of their HTH Worldwide certificate card (see example) (link to PDF), which can be printed as a PDF upon confirmation of my HTH coverage. This confirmation will come via email within 24 hours of enrollment and requires travelers to create a profile with HTH at www.hthstudents.com/login/step1.cfm.
Any need for student medical care abroad should be reported to on-site staff as soon as possible so they can assist in the arrangement of quality care. Alternatively, the patient may contact HTH directly (24/7) at (610) 254-8771 or Northwestern University’s Associate Director of International Safety and Security, Julie Anne Friend, via email for non-emergency needs, julie.friend@northwestern.edu or via the Northwestern University Police Department for emergency needs, (847) 491-2345.
HTH makes every effort to direct travelers to facilities with which they have a direct financial relationship, so that travelers do not incur out-of-pocket costs. However, this is not possible in all locations abroad. If travelers pay up front for care, HTH will reimburse these costs, so long as the patient produces a receipt and completes a claim form. Please be sure to note your HTH Certificate number on the claim form for quicker processing.
Claim forms and receipts must be mailed to HTH within one year of coverage dates:
