What We Do

University Residential Life (URL) is a Student Affairs department. Our vision is "Engage and educate: Creating communities of learners, leaders, and responsible citizens." Through our mission we strive to promote a sense of community and encourage the growth and development of each student in a variety of living environments. Our program seeks to complement the academic mission of Northwestern University by providing students opportunities for learning in a safe, diverse, and respectful environment.

Our Residential Life staff is comprised of 12 full-time staff and over 100 student staff who enhance their residential areas by providing:

  • Community development (e.g., community organizing; event planning; and advising hall governments)

  • Resident education (e.g., educating students on University policies and procedures; encouraging responsible independence and healthy living)

  • Safety and security (e.g., documenting violations of University policy; reporting facilities related problems; educating students about emergency response protocols; aiding students).
