Named after a former chairman, CEO, and national business leader, Ayers seeks to promote a broad understanding of business and related institutions in the United States and the world. Residents explore the realities of the business world through firesides, seminars and other programs. The annual Ayers Symposium on International Business engages corporate and government leaders, faculty, and students in discussions of current issues affecting world markets. A recent symposium focused on "Success Under 30" and featured high-profile business executives who advised students on how to prepare for success after graduation. Speakers included a biomedical venture capitalist, a patent attorney, the Boeing Company's vice president for corporate communications, and William White, a Northwestern professor, author, and former Bell & Howell CEO. Ayers' corporate associates, consisting of business executives and alumni, participate in college events, as do the college's fellows, who include faculty from the J. L. Kellogg School of Management and Medill's Integrated Marketing Communications Program. Ayers also has strong ties to the Business Institutions Program in the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. These links allow residents to meet and interact with leading figures in the field. Ayers has successfully led efforts to encourage both intellectual and athletic competitions among the residential colleges on campus. The college also host a full schedule of social and philanthropic programs. In past years it was involved with Habitat for Humanity and Northwestern's Dance Marathon. Ayers is located at the north end of campus, directly across from Lake Michigan and the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion and Norris Aquatics Center.
