Employer Events

Information sessions are a great way for your organization to connect with Northwestern students. To request an information session, log on to CareerCat > select Events > Information Sessions > Add New.

In addition to corporate presentations, we also work with organizations to host other opportunities to connect with Northwestern students. Examples are below. Please reach out to your Employer Recruiting Strategist to figure out which option would work best for your organization.

NCA Employer Events Now Business Casual

In an effort to be more inclusive and to broaden your talent pool, all on-campus employer events are business casual for students. We encourage you and your organization’s representatives to also dress in business casual to make students feel more welcome and comfortable.

Event Location and Parking

  • Most employer events are held in the Norris University Center, located at 1999 Campus Drive in Evanston.
  • Depending on the timing and format of your employer event, there are a variety of other spaces and classrooms available for organizations to use. An NCA team member will follow up with you individually if your information session will be held outside of Norris.
  • Free parking is available after 4 PM in the Segal Visitors Center garage (1847 Campus Drive), which is a three-minute walk from Norris (see lot 211 on the above parking map). Visitor Parking is also available in any of the lots labeled in yellow on the above parking map. If you will be coming to campus before 4 PM, please reach out to recruit@northwestern.edu to request a parking pass.

Timing
  • Norris rooms can be booked in two time blocks for evening events: 5:00-6:30 PM or 7:30-9:00 PM. For day time events, we recommend that events begin after 10:00 AM. Please request one of these time frames in CareerCat. Set up and clean up time does not need to be factored into your CareerCat request; please list the specific event time. Companies can arrive 30 minutes before the event start time.
  • Spaces outside of Norris can be reserved between 5:00-8:00 PM for evening events. For day time events, we recommend that events begin after 10:00 AM. Set up and clean up time does not need to be factored into your CareerCat request; please list the specific event time. Companies can arrive 30 minutes before the event start time.
  • Daytime events can be scheduled Monday-Friday, and we recommend scheduling evening events Monday-Thursday.
  • Employer events are typically 1-1.5 hours long. Student feedback has taught us that students prefer a shorter presentation with ample time for networking. Students also find interactive workshops or educational events/panels to be engaging.
Room Rental and A/V Equipment Fees
  • Room reservation and A/V fees depend on the venue:
    • Norris: Norris’s room rental fees include the use of A/V equipment. Please see the Room Rental rates (PDF) for details; all employer events coordinated through NCA fall under the “sponsored” rate.  Norris Event Management will also be responsible for collecting payment. If you have payment questions, please contact the Norris team directly at norris-events@northwestern.edu.
      • Norris Event Management will send room set-up forms at least one week prior to your scheduled information session.
    • Other Campus Venues: The room and A/V equipment rental rates vary by location. An NCA team member will work with you for employer events outside of Norris.
  • If you have budget constraints, please feel free to reach out to your Employer Recruiting Strategist, who can help you select a venue that will work for your organization.

Boxes cannot arrive more than 2 business days in advance of your event. Please inform your Employer Recruiting Strategist if you plan on shipping materials, so that they can be retrieved for your event. NCA cannot ship extra materials back to your office.

For events outside of these locations, organizations are responsible for bringing their own materials.

Catering
  • We know that you are excited to host students in as gracious a manner as possible during the recruiting process, but please know that catering is not expected at employer events.. If you choose to order catering, Sodexo is Northwestern’s preferred vendor.
    • Norris: Norris Event Management will send catering request forms at least one week prior to your scheduled employer events.
    • Norris Event Management will also be responsible for collecting payment. If you have payment questions, please contact the Norris team directly at norris-events@northwestern.edu
    • Other Campus Venues: An NCA team member will work with you for employer events outside of Norris.
Coffee Chats
  • You can promote your coffee chats by requesting an information session in CareerCat labeled as a coffee chat.
  • It is the responsibility of the company or organization to select the format and location of the coffee chats. Options are below. Please include the format and location in your event description when submitting a request in CareerCat.
    • Formats:
      • You can host open office hours where students can stop by to meet a representative at any time for any length of time.
      • You can have student sign up for a specific timeslot on either a Google Doc or Doodle. Be sure to include a link to access the Google Doc/Doodle in your event description in CareerCat.
    • Locations: Please note that space in these locations is available on a first come, first served basis. We recommend arriving well in advance of your coffee chats to secure a space.
      • Coffee Lab – 910 Noyes St. (North End of Campus)
      • Panera – 1700 Sherman Ave.
      • Peet’s Coffee - 1622 Chicago Ave.
      • Starbucks – 1734 Sherman Ave.
      • The Unicorn Café (cash only) - 1723 Sherman Ave.
      • Norbucks (Starbucks at Norris University Center) – 1999 Campus Dr. (Outside food is not allowed in this space, please purchase coffee/snacks at Norbucks).
      • Northwestern Career Advancement-630 Lincoln St. (During off-peak season and space permitting, organizations can host coffee chats at NCA’s Lincoln Interview Center during business hours).
Marketing Your Event

Organizations must schedule their information sessions in CareerCat at least two weeks prior to the event or RSVP date to receive marketing for their events.*

While we cannot send dedicated promotional emails to students on behalf of an employer due to the high volume of marketing material we receive, NCA will promote an organization’s information sessions/recruiting events in the following ways, if scheduled at least two weeks in advance of the date or RSVP deadline:

  • An event calendar listing featured on the NCA homepage
  • Reminder Tweet on @NUCareerAdvance the morning of the session
  • Email listing (information sessions are included in a weekly email to all undergraduate and/or graduate students, depending on the audience, on the Friday prior to the event)

*Please note that organizations will be listed along with other recruiting events that occur during the same day/week.
