Research Opportunities
IPD offers Global Health minors a unique opportunity to conduct research with distinguished Northwestern faculty and other researchers.
Students are currently conducting research on the following topics:
Contraceptive Use and Need in the Developing World

| Goal: |
To define the use of and need for female and male contraceptives in a developing country. |
| Project: |
Identify a developing country that you would like to study. Research issues associated with contraceptive use including accessibility, cost, types of normal and forced sexual practices that might influence contraceptive use, moral, political and social issues. Identify literature, news articles, conduct interviews with country state department personnel in Chicago or in Washington, email contacts in the country. |
| Product: |
15 minute presentation on your research findings and 10-12 page research paper outlining your research. A 3-ring binder with copy of power-point slides, research paper and all primary papers, news sources and printed web information will be turned in for grade. |
Approaches to Obesity Reduction in Developed and Less Developed Countries

| Goal: |
Describe obesity reduction efforts in developed countries, such as the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and in less developed countries such as Mexico, South Africa, or other relevant countries; to compare and contrast to those in the US. |
| Project: |
Research, document, and analyze approaches in the clinical health sector and public health arena, as well as public policies aimed at reducing community risk factors for obesity. Identify lessons that the US efforts can take from the international experience. |
| Product: |
