Gretchen L. Oehlschlager
Communications and Administrative Assistant
Gretchen L. Oehlschlager administrates communications, events and finances for the Office of Undergraduate Research. She promotes research funding and presentation opportunities to students by writing the department’s e-newsletter, creating all print and digital advertising, and collaborating with student leadership. Gretchen also writes and edits department web pages and handles the office’s social media presence. She plans and executes events such as award luncheons, student networking opportunities, and conferences, such as the Undergraduate Research & Arts Exposition and Creative Arts Festival, where 200 students present their work annually.
Gretchen handles financial transactions including transfers, purchasing, and account reconciliation for the office as well as the student-run Chicago Area Undergraduate Research Symposium. She provides key assistance to the director on budget management. She prepares, monitors and reconciles all human resources actions and grant payments to students and faculty. She guides students through payroll processes and paperwork requirements.
Gretchen joined Northwestern University’s Office of the Provost in October 2008. She previously served as an administrator and project manager for a non-profit HIV/AIDS center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College.
