Title: Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: The Green Gold Rush - Considering a 'Green Economy'
Description: Students for Ecological and Environmental Development is pleased to announce its Fall Speaker event: The Green Gold Rush: A Lecture by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to be held in Cahn Auditorium on December 2nd, 2009 (The Wednesday of WCAS Reading Week). Environmental speaker Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeepers, senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, and president of the Waterkeeper Alliance, and is the first among a new breed of environmentalist. Join SEED and its co-sponsors (below) for what is sure to be an interesting consideration of the rise of a new 'Green Economy.' From green jobs and technologies to weaning our reliance on carbon energy, Kennedy offers a bold vision to restore US economic might, safeguard our environment, and reestablish America's role as an exemplary nation. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A and book-signing. Copies of Mr. Kennedy's book, Crimes Against Nature, will be available for purchase before and after the show for signing. Sponsored by SEED in partnership with ISEN (Initiative for Sustainability and Energy at NU), One Book One Northwestern, NiSP (Northwestern Institute for Sustainable Practices), the Environmental Sciences and Engineering Departments, the Environmental Policy and Culture Program, Northwestern Class Alliance, Northwestern Community Development Core, and Environmental Campus Outreach at Hillel Tickets are required to attend this event. Tickets are free, and distribution to NU students and faculty will begin on November 23rd, 2009 @ Norris Box Office. 2 tickets will be allowed for pick-up with every Wildcard, and each patron can bring 2 Wildcards to the box office. Tickets for the general public will be available, without Wildcard needed, for pick-up from the Norris Student Center Box Office on November 30th, 2009. Any remaining tickets will be available for pick-up on a first come-first serve basis from the Cahn Auditorium box office on the night of the event. Description: "Trashed" examines a fundamental element of modern American culture...the disposal of what our society defines as "waste." With the American waste stream fast approaching a half billion tons annually, the causes and effects of the seemingly innocuous act of "taking out the garbage" are analyzed while showcasing the individuals, activists, corporate and advocacy groups working to affect change and reform the current model. A film by Bill Kirkos. Run time is approximately 77 minutes.
