Cars

Having a car can be very convenient, but it's important to know the rules so you and your vehicle stay safe and out of trouble.

Residential Parking Permits

Parking permits are available from the City for 25 high-demand residential areas. Vehicles must display a current residential parking district permit for the specific area in order to be exempt from certain posted regulations. Only residents who live within a specific residential area can purchase residential parking permits.

You can learn more and apply for a permit at the City of Evanston Website.

Snow Removal and Street Cleaning

Snow parking regulations are in effect from December 1 to March 31. Cars left on the street during certain times and snow emergencies are subject to tickets and removal.  If there is a snow emergency sirens will sound at 8:15pm and the parking ban will begin at 11 p.m. You can always check cityofevanston.org to see if there is a snow emergency.

There are also certain on-campus lots that are designated "no parking" after a snow emergency.  Here is list of the "no parking" zones -- under "SNOW REMOVAL POLICY" at the bottom of the page.

Parking on Campus

Permits are required for all Evanston campus lots from 8:00 am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday unless otherwise posted. Remember that you need a permit even during quarterly breaks.

Students can obtain a permit and additional information about the Chicago campus parking at the University Parking website.
