During your tenure at Northwestern, your involvement in both the on and off-campus communities is vital to your success as a Wildcat! The Living Off-Campus website and The Dean of Students Office are here to help you navigate your way as a great Wildcat neighbor within the Evanston community.  Northwestern is proud of the campus-community collaboration that we have developed with the City of Evanston and the long term residents of this great community.

The Dean of Students Office advocates for and educates towards the development of students as good neighbors within the Evanston community. Students living off-campus have rights and responsibilities associated with their pursuit of an enjoyable and safe off-campus living experience. The Dean of Students Office provides services and educational opportunities to promote the understanding of these rights and responsibilities throughout the off-campus student population.

The office acts in an advisory capacity only and does not make reservations, appointments, or rental commitments or participate in any negotiations with landlords. Individuals must, on their own, meet with the landlords, inspect the apartments, and make the lease arrangements, which are civil contracts not involving the university. Because of varying costs and the quality of accommodations, personal visits to available rooms/apartments should be made before making final arrangements.

College is a time for learning whether that is through your academic, extracurricular, or community involvement. This resource and The Dean of Students Office is here to help you develop your ties with your community to become more civically engaged and upon graduation prepare you to be part of the global community.
