As residents of Evanston, students have access to all the services the City of Evanston provides. The following will assist you in learning more about how to access, use these services and resources from the City of Evanston and Northwestern University.

Off-Campus Parking Permits and Street Cleaning

Avoid Tickets or Towing!!!

Understanding the City of Evanston's parking rules is essential to keep your vehicle from being ticketed or towed.

• Residential Parking Permits from the City of Evanston - Available through the city for high-demand parking areas. You must be a resident of a specific area to have a permit exempting you from certain posted regulations.
• Text Messages Regarding Street Cleaning from the City of Evanston  - Get notified via text regarding City of Evanston Street Cleaning.
• Street Cleaning Information from City of Evanston - Is done throughout the year, whether the street has one-sided or two-sided parking.
  Check the maps on the City of Evanston street cleaning website before you leave your car somewhere.

Garbage Collection and Recycling

• Refuse collection maps, dates and times for the City of Evanston vary from property to property.
  Remember - excess garbage on a premise is a ordinance violation, so make sure your trash gets picked up properly.
• For large quantities of trash or items such as furniture you must contact the City of Evanston at (847) 866-2940 to have it removed for a small fee.
• Evanston & Chicago Recycling Programs -  Offers a recycling programs for glass, plastic, cans and more.

Snow Removal 

• Snow parking regulations for the City of Evanston are in effect from December 1 to March 31. Cars left on the street during certain times and snow emergencies are subject to tickets and removal. 
• If there is a snow emergency sirens will sound at 8:15pm and the parking ban will begin at 11 p.m. 
• You can always check City of Evanston Website cityofevanston.org to see if there is a snow emergency.
