MASH actor to discuss activism

Mike Farrell, a human rights activist who played a starring role in the popular 1970s and 1980s TV series M*A*S*H, will speak about his life journey at noon April 4, in Lincoln Hall at the School of Law.

Sponsored by the Bluhm Legal Clinic at the School of Law, the talk is free and open to the public.

Widely known for his role as Captain B.J. Hunnicut in M*A*S*H, Farrell now is known for his social activism, including the protection of the environment and the abolition of the death penalty.

He will share reflections on those experiences from his recently published memoir “Just Call Me Mike: A Journey to Actor and Activist” (March 2007).

Farrell, who writes and speaks frequently against capital punishment, is the president of Death Penalty Focus. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to the abolition of capital punishment through grassroots organizing, research and dissemination of information about the death penalty and its alternatives.

Farrell also is co-chair emeritus of Human Rights Watch in Southern California, a spokesperson for Concern America, an international development and refugee aid organization, and cofounder of Artists United to Win Without War.
