Vermeer Quartet members join faculty recitalsThis winter, seven distinguished School of Music faculty members will present recitals featuring collaborations with guest artists as well as University colleagues and a student ensemble. All four recitals will be held in Lutkin Hall. Tickets for each of the following programs are $8.50 for the general public; $7 for senior citizens and faculty and staff; and $4 for full-time students. Tenor Kurt R. Hansen, voice faculty member and world-renowned soloist, will launch the winter lineup of faculty recitals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. He will perform Robert Schumann’s “Liederkreis” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “On Wenlock Edge.” Joining Hansen on stage will be pianist Karina Kontorovitch and the University Symphony Orchestra Quartet. Vermeer Quartet members Mathias Tacke and Marc Johnson will join Music faculty members Steven Cohen and Elizabeth Buccheri at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20. The program will include Samuel Barber’s Sonata for Cello and Piano, Igor Stravinsky’s Suite from “L’histoire du soldat” for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano and Paul Hindemith’s Quartet for Clarinet, Violin, Cello and Piano. Buccheri will take the Lutkin Hall stage again at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28. She will be joined by faculty pianist Sylvia Wang and voice faculty soprano Pamela Hinchman, in the concert event “Mélange à Trois.” They will perform works for piano and voice by Mozart, Beethoven, Wolf, Argento and Ravel. Violinist Gerardo Ribeiro and pianist Alan Chow will join faculty clarinetist Steven Cohen on the Lutkin stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1, during the final winter faculty recital. Their program will feature Darius Milhaud’s Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano, Béla Bartók’s “Contrasts” for Violin, Clarinet and Piano and Paul Schoenfield’s Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano. |
