U.S. News rankings publishedThree Northwestern schools retained their places in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of graduate and professional schools. The 2007 rankings were published March 31 by the magazine. Among business schools, the Kellogg School of Management remained fourth, tied with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science ranked 21st with four other schools, the same as last year. The Feinberg School of Medicine stayed 20th, tied with the University of North Carolina. Falling slightly were the School of Education and Social Policy, from sixth to 10th, and the School of Law, from 10th to 12th. In specialty areas, Kellogg ranked first in executive MBA; first in marketing; third in part-time MBA; fourth in management; sixth in non-profit; eighth in production operations; and 10th in finance. McCormick ranked third in materials, seventh in industrial/manufacturing, 10th in mechanical and 10th in civil. The Law School ranked fourth in tax law; fifth in legal writing; seventh in trial advocacy; and ninth in clinical training. It also ranked among the nation's top 30 law schools in diversity. The magazine also ranked programs in the sciences. In the areas in which Northwestern offers programs, the following units were ranked: biological sciences, 28th; mathematics, 21st; and physics, 29th. In chemistry, the overall program was ranked ninth. In chemistry specialty areas, Northwestern ranked fourth in inorganic and fifth in theoretical. |
