SEC officials, lawmaker speak at conference

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox, former SEC Chair William Donaldson and U.S. Rep. Richard H. Baker, a Republican from suburban Baton Rouge, La., will speak at the Sixth Annual Mutual Fund Directors Forum (MFDF) Policy Conference.

The conference, “Critical Issues for Mutual Fund Directors,” will take place in Washington, D.C., Feb. 15 and 16. Presented by the MFDF with the support and cooperation of the Northwestern School of Law, the policy conference provides independent mutual fund directors from across the country with updates and information critical to their oversight roles.

Baker was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1986 and represents Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District. He is the chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises.

Cox was confirmed as the 28th SEC chairman Aug. 3, 2005. Prior to joining the SEC, Cox was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served for 10 years in the majority leadership.

Donaldson served as SEC chairman from February 2003 to June 2005. Prior to joining the SEC, he co-founded and served as chairman and CEO of the investment banking firm of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.

The Mutual Fund Directors Forum is a membership organization for independent directors of mutual funds. Dedicated to improving mutual fund governance, the forum provides independent directors with opportunities to discuss critical issues and offers them continuing education and outreach programs.
