Golf teams earn high marks from Golf Digest Northwestern’s men’s and women’s golf programs have been honored by Golf Digest on the magazine’s list of best colleges in the nation for golf. Both programs rank 18 in the nation. The men are first among Big Ten schools; the women are second, behind Michigan. Both programs opened their fall season last weekend.
Golfer earns spots in 2006 Masters, U.S. Open Senior golfer Dillon Dougherty reached the final round of the U.S. Amateur Championship last month, winning matches over four days at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Penn. Although Dougherty’s streak ended on the last day when he lost 4 and 3 to Italian Edoardo Molinari, he was rewarded for his efforts with exemptions into the 2006 Masters and U.S. Open tournaments. He joins the legendary Chick Evans as the only Northwestern golfers to reach the U.S. Amateur finals.
Lacrosse standout Koester honored by NCAA Senior lacrosse standout Courtney Koester has been named by the NCAA as Illinois’ 2005 Woman of the Year. The award honors outstanding female student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics and community leadership, and have completed their athletics eligibility.
Northwestern hosts Gullikson Foundation tennis event Northwestern welcomes the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation Great Lakes Smash Sept. 30 to Oct. 1. Hosted by former ATP standout and alumnus Todd Martin and former Davis Cup captain Tom Gullikson, the weekend combines tennis activities and social events to benefit the foundation.
