BriefsChicago child care grows in popularity Faculty, staff and students are taking advantage of the new Chicago campus child care program, according to University officials. Since Northwestern and KinderCare Learning Centers partnered to bring KinderCare@ Work to the campus in January, enrollment has grown from 38 children to 87 and has reached 78 percent of capacity. Approximately 30 Northwestern families have been added to the infant waiting list in anticipation of their children’s births. At the current rate, it is expected that the center will be completely full by fall. The center is located two blocks south of Abbott Hall at 446 E. Ontario St. Contact the center director at (312) 867-7057 for enrollment information or to join the waitlist for a future space. Get banking, mortgage help from First Bank & Trust First Bank & Trust, Evanston’s only locally owned and managed bank, continues to provide banking and mortgage assistance to Northwestern faculty and staff. Products include preferred mortgage interest rates, no application fee, guaranteed second mortgages and bridge loans. The bank also has a Charter Professional Account available with a host of free products and services. For more information, call First Bank & Trust’s Lynda Ancell, vice president of mortgage lending, at (847) 733-7400, or Janie Savage of Northwestern’s Office of the Senior Vice President for Business and Finance at (847) 491-5534. Pipe replacement will close sidewalk Steam and condensate piping replacement for the west side of Sheridan Road will start June 20 and be completed Sept. 2. The piping to be replaced is located under the sidewalk at 1838 Chicago Ave. and extends to the northwest corner of Foster and Sheridan. From June 20 to Sept. 2, the sidewalk on the west side of Sheridan Road from 1838 Chicago up to Foster Street will be closed. Pedestrian crossing will be maintained at Foster and Sheridan, 1838 Chicago, the intersection light at Sheridan by Scott Hall and at the southwest corner of Foster and Sheridan. The work will also include coring under Sheridan Road at the northwest corner of Emerson Street to the east side of Sheridan. The houses along Sheridan will be accessible from the west entrance of each building or by entering the property from the west side. All affected houses will be contacted to discuss the project’s impact, according to Facilities Management. Parking fees rise Effective immediately, Parking Services has increased the cost of all new Evanston campus permits to cover an increase in the parking tax imposed by the City of Evanston. The new rate for full-time students, faculty and staff is $414 per year. The rate for part-time faculty and staff is now $207. The price increase comes in direct response to the Evanston City Council’s April 25 vote to increase the city parking tax by 20 percent. Individuals who have already purchased permits will be unaffected by this increase until renewal time. The complete list of new rates is online at www.northwestern.edu/up/parking/fees.html. Parking Services encourages car owners to purchase Ryan Field permits for $25. The Ryan Field shuttle runs all day Monday through Friday during the academic year. |
