Army funds research on wound repairA new research program at the Institute for BioNanotech-nology in Medicine (IBNAM) that focuses on developing bio-nanotechnology for wound repair, soft tissue engineering and biosensing has been funded by the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. The one-year contract for $2,016,441 started May 1 and contains an option for renewal for years two and three. Samuel I. Stupp, director of IBNAM and Board of Trustees Professor of Materials Science, Chemistry and Medicine, is the principal investigator. The research team includes Guillermo Ameer, assistant professor of biomedical engineering; Mark Hersam, assistant professor of materials science and engineering; James Hulvat, research assistant professor of materials science and engineering; and Lonnie Shea, assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering. In addition to funding research, the award will be used to purchase instrumentation for IBNAM’s new facilities in the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center of Northwestern University on the Chicago campus. |
