Collaboratory projects on displayMore than 200 elementary and secondary school educators, librarians, administrators, media specialists and technology coordinators are expected at the eighth annual Collaboratory Project Symposium tomorrow (April 29). The free, daylong event will highlight some of the innovative educational projects developed by Illinois teachers using the Collaboratory, a Web-based collaborative learning environment. A Northwestern technology outreach initiative funded by the Illinois State Board of Education, the Collaboratory aims to improve student learning and achievement. The symposium will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Norris University Center. To register, visit http://collaboratory.nunet.net/symposium2005. This year the Collaboratory enabled high school students in geographically dispersed school districts to share their writing and opinions about literature, gave middle schoolers a chance to use video streaming to demonstrate science concepts, and provided Chicago elementary students with individual, critical feedback on their poetry from a professional poet in class and online. The symposium will be Webcast from http://collaboratory.nunet.net/ for individuals unable to attend the event. For further information, call (847) 467-6734 or e-mail collaboratory@northwestern.edu. |
