Child care enrollment is open / Northwestern families interested in enrolling their children at the McGaw Child Care Center in Evanston can reserve a space for the 2005 academic year, which runs September 2005 through August 2006.

Program offerings include full- and part-day preschool, full-day infant through 2-year old child care, an after-school program and summer day camp programs for children preschool through grade 5.

Registration for returning families closed Feb. 14. New Northwestern families will be given priority fall enrollment over community families during the registration period that ends Feb. 28. After that date, spaces will be open to the community. Enrollment is currently being accepted for a limited number of immediate openings in the full-day and after-school programs.

Enrollment of Northwestern families at the YMCA center has increased by five times since the partnership began in 2002. Interested families may contact the center at (847) 475-8580 to schedule a tour and register.

Peace Corps top 25 / North-western earned a top 25 spot on the Peace Corps list of “Top Producing Colleges and Universities.” The list ranks institutions based on the number of alumni who currently serve as Peace Corps Volunteers.

This year, Northwestern is number 13 among medium-sized colleges and universities with 34 alumni representing the country abroad.

The University of Virginia ranked first with 84.

Moody heads compliance committee / Michael J. Moody has joined the University Compliance Committee as its new director. 

He will interact with all compliance units throughout Northwestern in order to identify areas of risk and exposure. The units will also be working together to develop an inventory of standard regulations. Moody will ensure that all complaints are handled in a timely and consistent manner.

Moody is a designated Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor and Certified Inspector General. He is also the former chairman of the Illinois Internal Audit Advisory Board and currently serves as chairman of the membership committee for The Art Institute of Internal Auditors.

J&J supports two centers / Northwestern and Johnson & Johnson have established a joint program to encourage translational research at the interface of materials, biology, chemistry and medicine.

Johnson & Johnson has identified two centers to receive funding in the first year of the collaboration.

In 2005, the Center for Drug Discovery and Chemical Biology will receive funding. The center is co-directed by D. Martin Watterson, John G. Searle Professor of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Biological Chemistry, and Linda Van Eldik, professor of cell and molecular biology and associate director of the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center.

The Institute for BioNanotechnology in Medicine, directed by Samuel I. Stupp, Board of Trustees Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry and Medicine, will also receive support in the first year.
