Theatre: Juvenilia

Anna Shapiro, associate professor of theatre, directs a comic drama about wry vengeance.

This winter Anna Shapiro, Steppenwolf Theatre artistic associate and Northwestern associate professor of theatre, will direct the regional premiere of “Juvenilia,” playwright Wendy MacLeod’s comic drama about college-age narcissism and wry vengeance.

Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28; 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29; 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30; 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2; 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3; 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4; 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5; 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, at the Josephine Louis Theatre, 20 Arts Circle Dr., Evanston campus.

“Juvenilia” is a coming-of-age contemporary play that is set in a fictitious private liberal arts school called Jubilee College. The four-character play tells the story of two Jubilee College roommates — Henry and Brodie — Brodie’s girlfriend Meredith, and their religious conservative Christian neighbor Angie. It deals with subjects of universal relevance to young people — casual sex, alcohol abuse and uncertainty about the future.

The theatre department will produce the play. Tickets are $20 for the general public; $18 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for students.
