Holiday concerts; ’Tis the season...Start a new tradition this season with contemporary and classic holiday music at Northwestern. With six performances by chamber, orchestral and choral or early music ensembles, this year’s Christmas concerts offer something for everyone.
The holiday concerts will be held at either Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive; Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Road; or Lutkin Hall, 700 University Place, all on the University’s Evanston campus, as noted below. Kick off the season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, as Robert Hasty conducts the Northwestern University Chamber Orchestra during a performance that includes Guiseppe Torelli’s Concerto Grosso in G minor (“Christmas Concerto”) at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. Other works on the program will be Henry Purcell’s “Two Christmas Interludes,” Michael Torke’s “Ash,” Antonin Dvorak’s “Legends” Nos. 1-5, and Charles Tomlinson Griffes’ “Poem” for flute and orchestra featuring flute soloist Melissa Snoza. Northwestern Composition Contest winner Nomi Epstein’s “Primary Colors” also will be performed. Single tickets are $6.50 for the general public; $4.50 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $3.50 for students. For more information about all of the holiday concerts, call the Pick-Staiger Concert Office at (847) 491-5441 or go online to www.northwestern.edu/pick-staiger.
