The award recognizes extraordinary advocacy for biomedical research and outstanding scientific accomplishments in cancer biology.

Hendrix joined the Northwestern faculty last spring from the University of Iowa where she was head of the department of anatomy and cell biology at the Carver College of Medicine; associate director of basic research and deputy director of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center; and the Kate Daum Endowed Research Professor.

A member of the executive committee of The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, Hendrix is the past president of the Federation of American Societies of Experimental Biology, the largest coalition of biomedical research societies in the country.

Hendrix has testified before Congressional committees on human embryonic stem cell research and the budgets of the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Department of Defense.
