University Services extends evening shuttle serviceUniversity Services has revamped the student evening shuttle service, testing a new system that sends one bus to key sites on campus every 10 minutes and another on a longer loop to off-campus locations. Debra Garfi, senior manager for University Services, said the new plan was studied for two months with the Escort Service and the Associated Student Government before it was put into effect April 12. “This better fits the needs of the students,” Garfi said. “99 percent of the feedback we’ve received has been positive.” The Purple Express route, which serves on-campus sites, will operate on a 10-minute roundtrip schedule from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Garfi said the Purple route will operate on a 30-minute schedule to reach off-campus sites and run during the same times. Students traveling to locations where the Purple route does not stop are encouraged to use the Escort Service, she said. The new format replaces the previous shuttle system, in which two buses serviced North Campus and South Campus but also ventured off-campus. |
