worker installing street light
BRIGHTER STREET LIGHTS INSTALLED
City of Evanston worker Jon Hahn installs new street lighting on a fixture at Sherman Avenue and Noyes Street. Evanston is replacing 4,500 mercury vapor lights with brighter induction bulbs at a cost of $3 million to $5 million. The first phase of the project is on the streets around Northwestern, between Sheridan Road and Ridge Avenue. Northwestern made a one-time contribution of $700,000 to the City of Evanston — an amount based on the University’s estimate of the approximate costs of improvements in the areas near Northwestern. The city’s work on public property will complement similar lighting improvements made by Northwestern on its land.
