The two presentations concentrate on discussions and screenings clips from Bailey titles “In the Line of Fire” and “Mishima” and from other classic works such as Bertolucci/ Vittorio Storaro’s The Conformist, Murnau’s Sunrise and Olmi’s I Fidanzati.

“Eloquence in Shadow: Encounters with John Bailey I” will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. today.

“Eloquence in Light: Encounters with John Bailey II” will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. tomorrow (April 9).

Both events, free and open to the public, will be held in John J. Louis Hall, room 119.

In an eclectic career, Bailey has photographed mainstream Hollywood studio films such as “Ordinary People” and “The Accidental Tourist,” offbeat “auteur” films such as Norman Mailer’s “Tough Guys Don’t Dance” and Jason Miller’s “That Championship Season,” and genre bending pictures such as “Swimming to Cambodia” and “A Brief History in Time.”

Bailey directed “China Moon” and “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.”

His recent work as a cinematographer includes James Brooks’ “As Good as It Gets,” Richard LaGravanese’s “Living Out Loud,” Sam Weisman’s “The Out-of-Towners”, “For Love of the Game” by Sam Raimi and “Forever Mine” by Paul Schrader.
