Profile: Diep DuongTitle and length of service: Assistant director, Medill School of Journalism Career Services Office; one year.
What do you do? I work with Medill undergraduate and graduate students, staff, faculty, alums and employers. My biggest project right now is coordinating the Medill Career Fair coming up on April 29. It will be held at Norris University Center and is open to students and alumni. The focus is journalism and integrated marketing communications. It’s a great opportunity to network. What is special about your job? I work with a diverse group of people ranging from freshmen to professionals in print, broadcast and new media. I have a great time working with faculty and staff. They are so involved with the students. What do you like to do outside of work? I love rock climbing, yoga, cooking and baking. Rock climbing is something I learned to do in school and plan on doing for the rest of my life. It brings so much pleasure to me to exert myself and accomplish the goal of getting to the top of the wall. Yoga is new for me, but I look forward to the added flexibility and health. I enjoy testing new recipes and creating new dishes as well as baking for the students, staff and faculty here. Got an itch to travel? My goal is to go to at least one new location every year. Most recently, I flew to the Southwest and visited Arch National Park, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. I also enjoy attending professional conferences like the Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers Trends Conference. Traveling provides me with great learning opportunities and gives me the chance to meet interesting people. This summer, I’m planning to visit Southeast Asia. This has been a dream of mine. I am looking forward to experiencing the different culture and people. Family: My family lives in the Chicago area. And I’m engaged. — Marilyn Idelman Soglin |
