Cancer center receives funding for postdoctoral training program

The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University has received funding from the National Cancer Institute for a new postdoctoral training program in cancer epidemiology and prevention.

The cancer education and career development program is headed by Peter Gann, associate professor of preventive medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine.

The interdisciplinary training program is structured around four areas: epidemiology and biomarkers; chemoprevention; screening and early detection; and behavioral science.

Fellows will spend two to three years in the program, which involves formal coursework, mentored research training and other didactic experiences.

Fellows will receive yearly stipends of $50,000 to $70,000, plus an additional $30,000 for training-related expenses.

The program will admit two trainees in summer 2004 and is currently seeking applications from individuals with M.D. degrees or Ph.D. degrees in epidemiology, biological science or behavioral science.
