On the job: Will Schmenner

Name and title: Will Schmenner, assistant curator of film, director of Block Cinema.

What he does: Schmenner leads the Block Cinema, a collaboration of the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art, the School of Communication and a student group known as the Film and Projection Society. Over the past two years, Block Cinema has created a diverse program fostering film culture through exhibitions of film and events featuring scholars, critics, and filmmakers. In working closely with students and faculty, Block Cinema creates a forum for critical discussion of film based in education, art and entertainment.

For the love of the cinema: “I’m interested in movies because we are still learning and debating what kind of art they are. I enjoy my job because running a cinema, like making a movie, is a collaborative process. My work with students and faculty keeps it fun and challenging.”
