New prize created for composers

The School of Music has announced the establishment of The Michael Ludwig Nemmers Prize in Musical Composition, a biennial award honoring classical music composers of outstanding achievement. The newly created prize is among the world’s largest awards offered to composers.

Knight grant will help boost Medill newsroom training

The Medill School of Journalism has been awarded a $1.9 million grant over four years from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to increase both the news industry’s financial investment in journalism training and the amount of training, education, and professional development that actually is offered to journalists around the country.

Summer scientists get head start on freshman year

Starting their college careers early, 12 incoming freshmen took part in a six-week workshop of collecting soil samples in Chicago neighborhoods and analyzing the samples for their lead content.
