Drucker Family gift establishes virology labs

The Drucker Family Foundation has made a $5 million gift to Northwestern through the Midwest AIDS Foundation/Engle Fund to create the Fred and Norman A. Drucker Virology Research Laboratories at the Feinberg School of Medicine.

The labs will occupy the entire 12th floor of the new Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center, currently under construction on the Chicago campus.

The research on the dedicated floor will focus on the study of virology, AIDS, hepatitis and biodefense, said Robert L. Murphy, M.D., John P. Phair Professor of Infectious Diseases and director of HIV/AIDS Clinical Research at the Feinberg School and executive director of the Midwest AIDS Foundation/Engle Fund.

“The generosity of Fred and Bonnie Drucker and the Drucker Family Foundation will allow the Feinberg School to attract more faculty and expand exponentially the scope of our work in these critical areas of research,” Murphy said.

The $5 million was given to the Feinberg School as part of Campaign Northwestern.
