Consulate General of India presents leadership awards at KelloggPresident Henry S. Bienen, Kellogg School of Management Dean Emeritus Donald P. Jacobs, Professor Mohan Sawhney and two Northwestern alumni received awards from the Consulate General of India in a ceremony held recently at the James L. Allen Center.
Bienen and the others were among the first recipients of the Outstanding and Inspiring Leadership Award, which recognized their “extraordinary dynamism and qualities of leadership,” as well as their roles in promoting stronger relations between India and the United States. The announcement was made at an awards dinner that also included the formation of the U.S.-India Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest. The new organization is designed to help bring together the business communities of India and the Midwest. “I am honored to be part of such an august group of individuals to receive this honor and I’m pleased that Northwestern and Kellogg are being recognized for their efforts to provide a greater international component to our studies,” Bienen said. Also receiving the award were Dean Emeritus Jacobs and Sawhney, McCormick Tribune Professor of E-Commerce and Technology. Kellogg Dean Dipak Jain delivered welcoming remarks at the event. Two School of Law alumni also were honored: U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (L’63) and Richard Friedman (L’56) president and chair of National Strategy Forum, Inc. Other honorees included Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, several other members of Illinois’ Congressional delegation, and other academic and business leaders. |
