Sgt. Reuss honored for rescue effortUniversity Police Sgt. Timothy Reuss has been honored for saving the life of an Evanston woman in the early morning hours of the 4th of July last year. Reuss and University Police responded to an emergency call at the north end of the campus to find a woman attempting to drown herself in Lake Michigan. The woman was spotted almost 300 yards off the shoreline. Police saw the woman deliberately go under the water and then come up for air. Reuss went after the victim and rescued her from the lake. Chief Saul Chafin presented Sgt. Reuss with a Life-Saving Medal in recognition of his “courageous and heroic act” in rescuing the woman without using a life-saving device. |
