Join NUSAC

Recruitment

NUSAC solicits applications for membership annually beginning in May. NUSAC accepts applications all year round but applications may be held for later vacancies if submitted after that year's deadline. Interviews and selection of new members occur in June/July of each year.

The Application Process

Employees interested in becoming members of NUSAC must complete an application form. To apply, fill out the application received by e-mail or download one here and send it to the NUSAC Secretary by email or campus mail. The application for NUSAC membership can be found here.  Applications are reviewed by current Council members and finalists are interviewed by the Council. Recommendations are forwarded to President Schapiro, who appoints new members.

Member at Large Designation

In 2011, NUSAC created a Member at Large designation, intended to allow a limited role for former NUSAC Council members and University staff in good standing. The purpose of this designation is to provide access to skills and abilities that may be needed beyond what is available on the 25-member Council. The names of individuals who are interested in assisting the Council as a Member at Large are kept on a special list and contacted by the NUSAC chair to assist with specific, time-limited projects based on their interest and availability. Members at Large have the right to accept or decline a task request, but once they agree to help, they are expected to devote the time needed to complete the project and to meet the stated deadline. Members at Large are not official Council members (do not attend meetings/nonpublic NUSAC events nor receive NUSAC internal correspondence). This designation is a way to increase the capacity of the volunteer council, expand the Council's expertise, capture the interest of those who may want to participate but who may not yet be eligible for NUSAC membership, and allow the Council to network and diversify its representation. Additionally, the Member at Large designation is a way to keep continuity and historical memory in a Council that, due to its structure, has frequent turnover. If you are interested in becoming a Member at Large, please contact the current NUSAC chair (see Council Members tab for chair name and e-mail address) or e-mail the NUSAC e-mail at nusac@northwestern.edu with your request.
