** Fitness Enhancement Physical Training is required for midshipmen failing to meet the standards of a semi-annual physical fitness test.

Your sophomore year in the Northwestern NROTC Unit will commence with the first week of classes, typically starting the last week of September.  Sophomore midshipmen take calculus-based Physics and Organizational Behavior taught by the NU faculty, and NS 345 Naval Engineering taught by the NROTC staff in the winter quarter.  All midshipmen, regardless of class year, attend the Naval Science Lab on Tuesday afternoons.  The academic year is full of opportunities to participate in NROTC events such as Drill Meets, the Military Ball, Dining-in, and Spring Review.  In your second summer as a midshipman, you will participate in Second Class Cruise.

Marine Option: Second year Marine Option Scholarship midshipmen have a very similar schedule to that pictured, with exceptions:
- Physical Training is mandatory three times per week (usually Monday and Wednesday afternoons, and Friday morning at 0600).
- All Marine Options are members of the drill team, so drill team practice is mandatory.
- Marine Options are not required to take Physics or Naval Engineering.
- Sophomore Marine Options will either take one of the following Naval Science courses instead of Naval Engineering: NS 336 Evolution of Warfare or NS 346 History of Amphibious Warfare.
Nurse Option: Nurse Option midshipmen attend all classes except Naval Science Lab at Loyola University of Chicago. There are no Naval Science Courses for the sophomore Nurse Option, and they are not required to take Physics. Nurse Options take Loyola University's equivalent of the Organizational Behavior course.
