Obligations : Overview |
 |
Obligations
Acceptance of the NROTC scholarship to Northwestern University obligates you to an active duty
service commitment. The length of this commitment depends on your choice of career option.
You will incur this obligation upon the first day of classes in the Fall of your sophomore year.
In addition to an active duty obligation, you will have certain other responsibilities as a
member of our NROTC team. The responsibilities of the typical four year Navy Option Scholarship
student are displayed below (for requirements specific to other scholarship options, see Academic Year Obligations):

Physical Training is mandatory three times per week (usually Monday and Wednesday afternoons, and Friday morning at 0600). |
| - |
All Marine Options are members of the drill team, so drill team practice is mandatory. |
| - |
Marine Options are not required to take Calculus. |
|

Nurse Option: Nurse Option midshipmen attend all classes except Naval Science at Loyola University of Chicago. Loyola's academic year is scheduled differently than that of Northwestern, so freshman classes are in progress during Orientation Week. Nurse Option freshmen receive permission from their professors at Loyola to miss class during this critical week of training. Nurse Options are not required to take Calculus.
