ACTING PROGRAM
As a Theatre Arts student, you will receive wide-ranging and intensive instruction in the techniques, aesthetics, and literature of the theatre. Core classes provide the foundation for your Theatre Arts curriculum and include:
• Acting
• Voice/Movement
• Performance Theory
• Text Analysis
• Production Crew
Both core and elective classes give you tremendous opportunity for individual instruction, with a teacher-student ratio of approximately 1:4.
To complement your course of study, we arrange guest lectures and field trips to professional productions in Chicago. Nearly every minute of every day is filled with challenging curricular activities.
In addition, you may choose from a number of elective classes offered by the faculty in specialized areas of study. The elective workshops augment the core classes and give you a chance to pursue particular areas of interest. Past electives have covered the following topics:
• stage combat
• performance art
• dialects
• Laban
• viewpoints
• audition techniques
• playwrighting
• theatre of the absurd
• mime and mask work
• improvisation
• introduction to directing
• Shakespeare in performance
• forms of dance
• lazzi
Both core and elective classes give you tremendous opportunity for individual instruction, with a teacher-student ratio of approximately 1:4.
