The Northwestern University Speech Institute will offer the BEST, most complete, thorough and comprehensive INSTITUTE in the nation.  In breaking away from the typical 10 day or 14 day 'camp', the Northwestern Speech Institute will offer an intensive 4-week study of the theory, research and practice needed to be a champion in the arena of high school speech competition.  We will offer specialized, quality instruction from the country's finest and most accomplished speakers in three areas in which the Northwestern University Speech program excels; Extemporaneous Speaking, Public Forum Debate and Lincoln Douglas Debate. 

We intend to provide a summer experience which prepares students for complete success in their upcoming season of competition.  Our motto is "To be the BEST, Learn from the BEST".  By providing a 4-week program, we can offer training that no other program does; complete instruction, thorough research, ample rehearsal time, numerous practice competitions and complete immersion in a summer Institute experience.  The Northwestern Speech Institute is a rigorous training program for the serious high school speech competitor.

The Speech Institute will accept up to a total of 60 students who can demonstrate that their passion matches that of the award winning Northwestern University Speech Team.  These students must show a dedication to the idea of perfecting both their intellectual and personal development.  The Northwestern Speech Institute strives to help students enhance research, construct clear and concise communication skills, to learn about the upcoming national topics and to achieve these goals in a high skills environment that encourages substantial interaction among students and faculty/staff.  The limited size of our Institute, accompanied by an outstanding 1:8 student teacher ratio, permit us to provide Northwestern Speech Institute students the very best in individualized instruction suited to the particular needs of each student.

Students will find the environment of the Northwestern Speech Institute extra-ordinarily productive, challenging, enjoyable and nurturing.  Our goal is not only to make sure your speaking skills improve, but that you leave Northwestern prepared to be a CHAMPION in the 2012-2013 season.  Students leaving the Northwestern Speech Institute have the best chance to excel as they return to their own high schools, having learned the upcoming topic and other skills from the finest instructors around the country as well as those from the Northwestern University Speech Team.
