EVANSTON, Ill.  --- Responding successfully to an emergency or other adverse circumstances on a college campus means also making sure that business operations continue as smoothly and safely as possible throughout and after an urgent situation.

Northwestern University’s Business Continuity Planning Office (BCP) is tasked to take the lead in such a situation and do just that.

In connection with Business Continuity Awareness Week, March 17 to 24, BCP will host daily events about continuity planning and personal preparation for emergency situations on campus.

Among the events, a brown bag luncheon titled “Personal Preparedness and Business Continuity Awareness” will take place at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 20, in Chicago Room (#103) of the Norris Center.

BCP, working with leaders throughout Northwestern, manages the business continuity plans of each department or functional area of the University following emergency events or any disruption to normal campus processes.

“No matter what happens on any of Northwestern’s campuses, we need to be prepared to protect the life, health and safety of our community members,” said Sharlene Mielke, BCP manager.

“We also need to preserve the viability and reputation of the institution and do our best to maintain all of our normal operations,” she said.
