EVANSTON, Ill. --- A Northwestern University classical, contemporary or jazz concert will soon be as close as your radio dial or computer.

For the eighth consecutive year, Northwestern’s Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music and WFMT 98.7 FM and wfmt.com will broadcast and stream a weekly Sunday afternoon radio series showcasing recent concerts featuring Northwestern music faculty, students, alumni and guest artists. The series begins Jan. 8.

The winter 2012 four-week, hourlong “Music From Northwestern” series will air each Sunday at 4 p.m. throughout the month of January on Chicago’s fine arts and classical music station. Details about the Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29 programs will be posted as they become available at www.pickstaiger.org/content/music-northwestern-wfmt.

Peabody Award-winning WFMT program host and Northwestern alumnus Kerry Frumkin will host the four broadcasts. The series is co-produced by Richard Van Kleeck, director of concert activities for the Bienen School and Jesse McQuarters, a producer of internationally syndicated programming for the WFMT Radio Network, a Chicago-based double bassist and audio engineer.

The complete 2012 series, as well as Northwestern programs from last year will eventually be available for streaming on demand at www.pickstaiger.org/radio-library. Seasons one through six are currently available.
