Chad Mirkin to discuss changing technologies at APEC CEO Summit 2011

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University’s Chad A. Mirkin, a world-renowned leader in nanotechnology research and its application, is joining world leaders, including President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Honolulu this weekend.

The summit is billed as the Asia-Pacific’s premier business event, drawing thousands of economic and business leaders from around the region and beyond. It will feature more than 100 high-profile speakers, including government leaders, private sector chairmen and CEOs and other influential leaders from the region.

Former Mayor Richard M. Daley and W. James McNerney, Jr., president and CEO of The Boeing Company, also are expected to attend from Chicago.

Mirkin, a member of President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, will participate in a panel that will discuss the changing technologies in energy and nanotechnology that are likely to transform business and markets in the Asia-Pacific region. President Sebastián Piñera of Chile also is on the panel. 

Mirkin is the George B. Rathmann Professor of Chemistry in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and professor of medicine, chemical and biological engineering, biomedical engineering and materials science and engineering and director of Northwestern’s International Institute for Nanotechnology.
