“The Second City does Northwestern: Wildcat on a Hot Tin Roof” at Cahn, Oct. 20-23

By Judy Moore

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The Second City -- Chicago’s renowned sketch comedy and improv ensemble -- will head north to Northwestern University’s Evanston campus to present their Wildcat-centric revue from Oct. 20 to 23. The group’s three performances will take place during Homecoming 2011 and Reunion weekend.

Open to the public, “The Second City Does Northwestern: Wildcat on a Hot Tin Roof” will be staged at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20; 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St., on the University’s Evanston campus.

The Second City performances are a special addition to the 2011-12 Mainstage season at the Theatre and Interpretation Center (TIC) at Northwestern University and presented in partnership with the Northwestern University Office of Alumni Relations and Development, Homecoming and Reunion Weekend.

The Thursday, Oct. 20 evening performance will include a special walk-on guest appearance by Northwestern women’s lacrosse coach Kelly Amonte Hiller and Willie the Wildcat, the Wildcats’ mascot and most loyal fan.

The no-holds-barred event will satirize everything purple in sketch comedy, songs and improvisation. “We discovered a whole lot to skewer during our three-day tour of Northwestern,” said The Second City director and writer T.J. Shanoff. “From Waa-Mu to the Dance Marathon, from Wildcats sports to the NU dating scene -- of lack thereof.” No Northwestern tradition will be safe.

The Second City has been the heart and soul of Chicago comedy for more than 50 years. For more information, visit http://www.secondcity.com/.

Single tickets to “The Second City Does Northwestern: Wildcat on a Hot Tin Roof” are $30; $10 tickets are available exclusively to Northwestern students with valid IDs for the Thursday, Oct. 20 performance only. Tickets can be purchased through the TIC Box Office at (847) 491-7282 or online at www.tic.northwestern.edu.
