Kibbe Named Elcock Professor


Professor honored by President Obama

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Melina Kibbe, M.D., associate professor of vascular surgery in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Edward G. Elcock Professor of Surgical Research.

She has received a number of awards. Notably, Kibbe was recognized by President Barack Obama in 2009 with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. She is a vascular surgeon at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and serves as a staff physician and director of the vascular laboratory at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. She recently was named vice chair of research in the department of surgery and president-elect of the Association for Academic Surgery.

Her research focuses on nitric oxide vascular biology and developing nitric oxide-based therapies for patients with vascular disease. She is a member of the Institute for BioNanotechnology in Medicine at the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center.
