Wanxiang Fellows Program Signing Ceremony to be Held at Northwestern Aug. 24

Wanxiang Corporation sends Northwestern students to China to study clean energy technologies

EVANSTON, Ill. --- As part of its continuing support of President Barack Obama’s “100,000 Strong Initiative,” a national effort designed to dramatically increase the number and diversity of American students studying in China, Wanxiang America Corporation has partnered with Northwestern University to create study abroad opportunities in China.

A ceremony marking the signing of a new agreement between Northwestern University and Wanxiang America Corporation of Elgin that will enable Northwestern students to study the development of clean energy technologies in China will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, on Northwestern’s Evanston campus.

The signing ceremony will be held in the Farley Lounge of the James L. Allen Center, 2169 Campus Drive. Participants in the ceremony will include:

  • Consul General of the People’s Republic of China to Chicago Guoqiang Yang
  • President of Wanxiang America Corporation Pin Ni 
  • Former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, who is the co-chair of the China/US “100,000 Strong Initiative.”
  • Northwestern University President Morton Schapiro
The signing ceremony will formalize an agreement in which Wanxiang will provide for approximately 12 to 20 Northwestern University students per year to visit China.
