Shredding Trucks Coming to Campus

Bring confidential documents for free shredding July 19 and 21

By Amy Weiss

EVANSTON, Ill. --- It’s never too late for spring cleaning.

Gather those confidential documents you have been meaning to get rid of and safely dispose of them at one of the mobile shredding trucks that will visit the Chicago and Evanston campuses.

The shredding trucks will make several stops on the Chicago campus Tuesday, July 19, and on the Evanston campus Thursday, July 21.

Hosted by University Services, the shredding by ShredX, Northwestern’s preferred vendor for document destruction, is free. Materials must be related to the University. (Personal documents will not be accepted.) Dollies will be available.

Event organizer Jessica Jacobs of University Services recommends shredding sensitive materials to comply with University guidelines, prevent identity theft, free up office space and go green (ShredX recycles all shredded paper).

“It is very important to shred confidential information to minimize risk to the University,” Jacobs said. “Besides, federal and state laws dictate compliance related to the destruction of sensitive documents, and regular shredding helps optimize space and minimize the cost of record retention.”

Last year, more than 100 people from both campuses participated, and more than 400 boxes of paper were shredded.

Shredding truck schedule:

11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Rubloff Dock, 375 E. Chicago Ave. (dock entrance on Superior)
