Northwestern Acquires Methodist Pension Board Building

By Alan K. Cubbage

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University has purchased a building and land located at 1201 Davis St., Evanston, owned by the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits of the United Methodist Church, officials from the University announced today (April 29).

The property is located on the north side of Davis Street between Ridge Avenue and Asbury Avenue. The land purchased already is exempt from property taxes.

Northwestern has no plans to change the use of the building, said Eugene S. Sunshine, Northwestern’s senior vice president for business and finance. The property, which is currently an office building, will continue to be used in that manner. Northwestern plans to begin moving offices into the building this spring or summer.

“We’re pleased to have worked out this arrangement with the Methodist Pension Board to acquire the building for continued use for the same purposes,” Sunshine said. “This will provide the University with space needed for offices without having to acquire land that is currently on the property tax rolls.”
