Mets Named Reiger and Cowen Research Professor in Pediatric Ophthalmology


Feinberg professor is leading expert in congenital and hereditary eye diseases

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Dr. Marilyn Mets, M.D., professor of ophthalmology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Lillian Sherman Cowen Reiger and Harold L.S. Cowen Research Professor in Pediatric Ophthalmology.

Mets is the head of ophthalmology at Children’s Memorial Hospital and is credited with helping to create one of the foremost pediatric ophthalmology resident and training programs in the country. She is a world-renowned expert in ocular manifestations of intrauterine infections, congenital infections and hereditary eye disease. She was the first ophthalmologist to identify a new congenital infection: lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus with retinopathy.

She joined the Northwestern faculty in 1990.
