Law professor leading researcher on how decision makers evaluate statistical evidence

By Jasmine Rangel

EVANSTON -- Jonathan Koehler, a newly hired professor at the Northwestern University School of Law, has been named the Beatrice Kuhn Professor of Law.

Koehler, a cognitive psychologist, is a leading researcher on how decision makers, such as jurors, evaluate statistical evidence. Koehler’s work, which has appeared in such journals as Science, Management Science and Psychological Science, exposes flaws in human judgment and decision-making and how such flaws influence how cases are decided and how laws are written.

Koehler has earned a number of research and teaching awards, and is the recipient of competitive grants from the National Science Foundation and other organizations.
