Barry Nelson Named Walter P. Murphy Professor


Scholar is co-author of book adopted by more than 60 universities

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Barry L. Nelson, professor and chair of industrial engineering and management sciences in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University, has been named the Walter P. Murphy Professor.

Nelson is an internationally recognized leader in design and analysis of computer simulation experiments on models of stochastic systems, particularly statistical efficiency, optimization via simulation, multivariate input modeling and metamodeling.

Nelson is a fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). His work has been recognized with "best paper" awards from the INFORMS Simulation Society and the journal IIE Transactions. He is co-author of the book “Discrete-Event System Simulation,” which has been adopted by more than 60 universities and translated into Chinese.
